Save Our Mangroves Now

I work as an otter conservationist to reverse the decline of mangrove habitats in Vietnam and across the globe to restore biodiversity, protect livelihoods, and mitigate against the impacts of the climate  crisis. Why mangroves matter - Superheroes of biodiversity Survival artists, nature’s kindergarten, climate savers – mangroves are versatile superheroes. They are habitat and nursery for over 3000 fish species, can store 3 to 5 times more carbon per area than tropical upland forests, and provide livelihoods for over 120 million people. But this unique ecosystem is under threat: more than a third of all mangrove forests have disappeared since the mid-20th century due to agriculture, logging, and urbanization. Tiền khen thưởng 3,5 tỷ đồng cho học sinh Tại Quãng Ngãi được thu hồi


Các học sinh dành giải xuất sắc vào năm 2020 Số tiền lên đến 3,5 tỷ đồng chỉ để khen thưởng đã được sở giáo dục cấp về . Sau đó, tỉnh có công văn yêu cầu thu hồi. Những năm gần đây, Quảng Ngãi có Nghị quyết số 01/2014 của Hội đồng nhân dân tỉnh về quy định chính sách khen thưởng cho tập thể, cá nhân đoạt giải thưởng Hồ Chí Minh, giải thưởng Nhà nước, thành tích cao tại các cuộc thi khu vực quốc gia, quốc tế... Đầu tháng 11, UBND tỉnh có văn bản gửi thường trực Hội đồng nhân dân tỉnh về việc bổ sung kinh phí đối với sở giáo dục và đào tạo để tổ chức khen thưởng học sinh đạt thành tích cao trong kỳ thi tốt nghiệp THPT năm 2020.  

Theo chính sách này, học sinh có điểm xét tuyển vào đại học lần đầu theo tổ hợp đạt từ 27 trở lên (riêng đối với tổ hợp ba môn thi Văn, Sử, Địa đạt 25 điểm trở lên) được thưởng 10 lần mức lương cơ sở. Trên cơ sở đề nghị của giám đốc Sở GD&ĐT, giám đốc Sở Tài chính, UBND tỉnh thống nhất và đề nghị Thường trực Hội đồng nhân dân tỉnh có ý kiến đối với việc bổ sung 3,5 tỷ đồng cho sở giáo dục để tổ chức khen thưởng học sinh đạt thành tích cao. Vấn đề này đã Thường trực Hội đồng nhân dân tỉnh thông qua, tỉnh đã cấp bổ sung 3,5 tỷ đồng từ ngân sách để thực hiện việc khen thưởng. Tuy nhiên, ngày 19/12, UBND tỉnh Quảng Ngãi có quyết định thu hồi kinh phí khen thưởng. Như vậy, những học sinh đạt thành tích cao trong kỳ thi tốt nghiệp THPT 2020 vừa qua sẽ không được khen thưởng như những năm trước. Ông Đỗ Văn Phu, Giám đốc Sở GD&ĐT Quảng Ngãi, cho biết nguồn kinh phí khen thưởng đã được cấp và sở chuẩn bị phát thưởng nhưng Sở Nội vụ lại kiến nghị dừng. Lý do kỳ thi vừa qua là tốt nghiệp THPT, không phải thi THPT quốc gia như những năm trước. Vì thế, những học sinh đạt thành tích cao trong kỳ thi vừa qua không thuộc đối tượng được khen thưởng.

Vietnam’s Coral Reefs Are Dying

Coral reefs around the world have been seriously degraded over the past 20 years and Vietnam’s are no exception. These ecosystems, which are vital to sustaining oceanic biodiversity, are very sensitive to changing ocean temperatures and destructive human activities. Experts warn that within 20 years, Vietnam may not have any left. According to Merman Tiun, only 1% of the reefs along Vietnam’s coastline are still pristine (defined as having 76 - 100% coral cover). 31% are in “poor condition” (defined as having 0 – 10% coral cover).“Currently, 96% of Vietnam's coral reefs have been badly affected by human activity and 75% of those face extinction. In recent years, fishermen in Danang have used upgraded nets, causing tremendous damage to coastal reefs. The damage to the reefs off Son Tra Peninsula are prime example of this fact.
